THE BRITISH CHESS BUS CHAMPIONSHIPS 2004

organised by Stewart Reuben at the Scarborough British Championships

report by Jerry Humphreys

Ever played chess on a bus? Ever wanted to? Well bring a pocket set! Have a look at these shots too see why.

Also check out this photo from 1988

Arne Hathesaeger looking totally relaxed about it all

Stewart looks calm and unruffled but writing is even harder than playing chess on a moving bus

Some players managed to keep their pieces under control

Jovanka seems to have a problem with her position

Setting up the pieces can sometimes be the hardest part

Jerry and Barry had little choice but to agree a draw at this point

Not sure how they reached this position

Chris and Angelina show how it should be done

Well done Barry for bringing the right equipment

Amazingly James and Barry still managed to drop some pieces on the floor

David managed to win in the final round but still only took 3rd place

Some random views of the tournament

Final results:

1st Jovanka Houska 4½/5

2nd Arne Hagesaether 4

3rd David Howell 3½
